تقديم برنامج تعليمي وتدريبي متطور متكامل وواقعي ليمكن المتعلم من اكتساب المعرفة والمهارات الكافية للعمل ضمن فريق متكامل ، ومن بناء مواقف وممارسات فاعلة وامينة وكذلك غرس قيم وثقافة ومهارات التعلم المستمربين المتدربن.

- بناء القدرات لدى الدارسين لتنمية معرفتهم ومهاراتهم في العمل المهني وفي التعلم المستمر.
- دعم المحتوى المعرفي والمهاري بمخرجات البحث العلمي.
- الانفتاح على المؤسسات الحكومية المماثلة وبناء اسس التعاون والتوأمة سعيا نحو العمل المشترك لتطوير المنظومة الصحية والعملية التعليمية في العراق
- السعي للتعاون والتوأمة مع مؤسسات مماثلة في المنطقة وعلى مستوى العالم.
- العمل على دخول ساحة المنافسة في التصنيف الاكاديمي على المستوى الوطني والاقليمي والعالمي.
The Division of Laboratory Techniques is seeking to be a pioneer in training technical medical staff with high level of skills in practice,, ethics and res
within a context of professionalism, scholarship and caring. The division is also envisaging to be a distinguished among fellow institutions in Iraq and the region.
The provision to trainees of an adequate, realistic and scientific training programme that enables them to acquire sufficient knowledge and skills required in the real life practice and team work. The programmes seeks to cultivate the culture of positive attitude, safe practices and continuing learning.
The qualification of trainees capable of providing adequate technical lab. Services within health and medical settings.
Building capabilities of trainees to self develop their knowledge and skills on continuing basis.
Encourage and conduct scientific research to support the educational process.
Collaboration with fellow governmental institutions, establishing twinning and mutual understanding for the sake of joint work and exchange of expertise.
To work towards collaboration with regional and international institutions.
To work towards attaining high level of quality assurance and in the long term attaining an opportunity for accreditation at national, regional and/or international levels.

These education outcomes were adapted from a variety of sources to fit the envisaged model for students graduated from the College of Health and Technical Techniques in Al-Maaqal University with specific reference to graduates of Laboratory techniques educational programme. Updated and adapted by the Quality and Accreditation Committee (Professor Omran S Habib, Dr Lamia Abdul-Hussain and Layal Ali). These education outcomes were also endorsed by the College Council. First drafted May 2021.
We, the Dean of the College of Health and Medical Techniques in Al-Maaqal University and all other faculty and student’s representatives, declare herewith that we are highly committed to ensure that all feasible amenities. facilities, skills and knowledge, are provided to the best we can do, to ensure that a graduate from the College of Health and Medical Techniques is able to practice safely and effectively in compliance with the outcomes and objectives stated in this document.

It is assumed that the graduates of this educational programme will work within an environment of health and medical practice with collegues from other medical disciplines. Thus the educational outcomes are categorized into three domains

Relate and compare normal human biological values to common clinical presentations.
conduct appropriate lab. investigations using correct techniques towards differential diagnoses for common clinical cases on the basis of clinical recommendations.
Explain the fundamental principles underlying such investigative techniques.
Conduct accurate observations of lab-based monitoring of clinical presentations and signs
Assist in the disease control measures in hospital and community settings.
Assist in the evaluation and application of epidemiological data in managing health care for the individual and the community.
Critically evaluate the results of relevant diagnostic and prognostic lab. tests.
Recognize the importance and formulation of relevant research questions in biomedical science, psychological science or population science.
Share in designing appropriate protocol and plan of a study that will answer the formulated research questions.
Apply available findings from the literature to answer questions raised by specific clinical problems.
Appraise the ethical requirements and limitations involved in medical research.
3.2. The graduate as a practitioner
18.104.22.168 The graduate will be able to carry out a consultation session with a patient in showing the ability to:
Make an adequate report of the results of lab tests (investigations) he/she performs on the basis of clinical request/recommendation.
Express adequate details a requesting doctor should in a list in a lab test requesting form. .
Assess a patients capacity to make a particular decision.
Determine the extent to which patients want to be involved in decision-making about their care and treatment.
Provide limited explanation, reassurance and support to patients while delivering the results of pre-requested lab test.
g.Assist in the interpretation of certain lab investigation when requested by treating physician
Communicate effectively with patients, their relatives and care providers for the sake of effective management.
Communicate clearly, sensitively and effectively with individuals and groups regardless of their age, social, cultural or ethnic background or their disabilities in the appropriate language.
Communicate by spoken, written and electronic methods including medical records and be aware of other non-verbal methods of communication used by patients like body language and expression.
Communicate appropriately in different circumstances, such as breaking bad news, and when discussing sensitive issues, such as alcohol consumption, smoking or obesity.
Communicate appropriately with difficult or violent patients or people with mental illness.
Communicate appropriately with people with mental illness.
Perform competently and safely a range of procedures and adequately and eligibly record the results when required:
Measuring body temperature.
Measuring pulse rate and blood pressure.
Trans-cutaneous monitoring of oxygen by applying and taking readings from an oxygen saturation electronic device.
Managing blood samples in making sure that blood samples are correctly labeled and placed and sent to the laboratory promptly and in the correct way taking measures to prevent spilling and contamination.
Taking blood samples of venous blood to test for the growth of infectious organisms in the blood using special blood containers and laboratory procedures.
Measuring blood glucose in patient s blood at bedside using appropriate equipment and strips and interpreting and recording results.
Recording and interpreting basic respiratory function tests.
Conducting urine multi dipstick test for abnormal content such as blood or protein.
Advising patients on how to collect mid-stream urine to reduce risk of contamination.
Taking nose, throat and skin sterile swabs.
Making nutritional assessment of the patients including an evaluation of their diet, their general physical condition and measurement of height, weight and body mass index.
Giving information about the procedure and make sure that the procedure is acceptable to the patient, and obtaining and recording consent when appropriate.
Ensuring that the procedure is performed and the patient is cared for appropriate aftercare and watched appropriately after the procedure.
Following approved processes for hand washing and cleaning before procedures or surgical operations (including surgical scrubbing up).
Making correct use of equipment and supplies to self-protect and prevent the spread of body fluid and cross-infection between operator and patient (gloves, gowns, masks..etc).
Taking all steps necessary to prevent the spread of infection before, during and after the procedure.
Ensuring safe disposal of clinical waste like needles, and other sharps that need to be carefully handled and placed in a suitable container for disposal.
As pertaining to information, the graduate should be able to use information effectively in a medical context in showing ability to:
Keep accurate, legible and complete laboratory records.
Make effective use of available information systems in storing and retrieving information including data bases and computers when appropriate.
c. Keep to the requirements of confidentiality and data protection, legislations and codes of practice in all dealings with information.
Access information sources and use the information in relation to patient care, health promotion, giving advice and information to patients, and research and education.
Apply the principles, methods and knowledge of health information to medical practice.
3.3. The graduate as a professional
3.3.3-1 The graduate will be able to behave according to ethical and legal principles as described by the regulatory and professional bodies and show the ability to:
Recognize the described ethical guidance and standards set up by the national regulatory and professional bodies which express what is expected of all lab. Technicians practicing in the country.
Demonstrate awareness of the technical responsibilities and role of the lab.Technician in making the valid lab results for the individual and community the first concern.
Be well mannered, kind, trustworthy and honest and to act with integrity and to maintain confidentiality, respect patients dignity and privacy and recognize the importance of appropriate consent.
Respect all patients, relatives , colleagues and others regardless of their age, colour, culture, disability, ethnic or origin, gender, lifestyle, marital status, race, religion or belief, or social or economic status.
Recognize the rights and the equal value of all people and how opportunities for some people may be restricted by others perception.
Understand and accept the legal, moral and ethical responsibilities involved in protecting and promoting the health of individual patients, through the best practice in handling investigations.
Demonstrate knowledge of laws and systems of national professional regulation relevant to laboratory practice including the ability to complete relevant certificates and legal documents and liaise with forensic authorities where and when appropriate and required.
Self-assess and identify and acknowledge gaps in knowledge, skills and attitude and shortcomings and seek sources and support to bridge gaps and fulfill identified needs.
Acquire, assess, apply and integrate new knowledge, skills and attitude
Recognize own personal and professional limits and seek help from colleagues and supervisors when necessary.
Establish the foundations for lifelong learning and continuing professional development.
Manage time and prioritize tasks, and work autonomously when necessary and appropriate.

Promote, monitor and maintain health and safety in health facility and in community and recognize how errors can happen in practice and apply the principles of quality assurance, clinical governance and risk management in medical practice.
Recognize the importance of and the need to keep to measures to prevent the spread of infection and apply the principles of infection prevention and control.
Recognize own personal health needs, consult and follow the advice of a suitably qualified professional and protect patients from any risk posed by own health.
THE STRUCTURE OF THE SYLLABUS
This section displays the main subjects covered by the six year medical education syllabus in Basrah. The choice of subjects, their mix, order and weight is based on the assumption that they could fulfill the requirement for a graduate capable of performing the education outcomes detailed in Section -3 of this document.
